Seducing imagery, dopamine effects in the brain, hidden moments of pleasure, and the ability to temporarily find gratification; all form a potent combination to draw the digital literate on a pathway to addiction and damnation. Internet and porn are inseparable, easy access to adult content, thanks to the Internet, is the main reason why porn addiction is on an all-time rise. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India had 391.50 million Internet customers as of December 31, 2016. By 2022, India’s total Internet users will be 840 million (60 percent of the population), up from 357 million (27 percent of the population) in 2017. Since the announcement of the lockdown, there has been a 95% increase in the number of visitors to pornographic websites from India.
It is alarming that most patients with porn addiction are older adults and married couples. The government attempted to block these websites, however, with the ban in place, India’s average time spent on the website climbed in 2018 by two seconds.
According to a report citing the director of the Indian Cyber Army (ICA), search engines get approximately 1,16,000 daily requests connected to child pornography. Governments and law enforcement have risen to the challenge, but this evil has pervaded fully into society. Recent trends show that maximum child sexual abuse material (CSAM) content is being shot on mobile devices and tier 2, 3, and 4 cities have emerged as major contributors
The volume of such stuff can be calculated as 380 persons searching for ‘adult’ content on search engines every second. Approximately 25 percent of all search engine queries are connected to pornography, amounting to approximately 68 million searches every day. Objectifying Women, and children all lead to a depraved mind leading to horrific crimes in society.
Although the government blocks over 3,500 pornographic websites, analysts estimate that 35-40 percent of the information downloaded daily from India is pornographic.
However, it is not an issue affecting only men. Women, adolescents, and children are also being drawn into the trap of pornography at frightening rates. Data shows that children as young as 8 years get their first exposure to a porn website via the internet!!
So where does the Data point us to… The gates of Hell. Unrestricted access by the forces of darkness to the minds of this generation.
Who will stand at the gates and fight the good fight? Who will stand at the gates for the lost generation? How will the lost be saved if the Good news is not available at the point of Sin? Will the church rise up to engage in battle in the spiritual realm against the forces of darkness? Will the pulpit and the pew together work to bring Good News at the frontlines?
